A dozen kilometres to the south of Võru is Kasaritsa. Mägi arrived there in the summer of 1916, when the judge Martin Taevere, a complete stranger to Mägi, wrote to him and invited the artist to spend the summer at his place to recuperate. It is known that Mägi spent the next summer, i.e. 1917 in Kasaritsa, too (he mentions leaving the place on 1 August in one of his letters), perhaps returning there in later years as well.
In addition to Kasaritsa, Mägi moved about quite a lot in Võrumaa, possibly on foot or by bicycle.
He made trips to surrounding areas as well as to Kanepi and Lake Verijärv, which are a few dozen kilometres away.
A large number of Mägi’s sketches with motifs of southern Estonia have been preserved as well as Martin Taevere’s memoirs, which suggest that Mägi worked in plein air a lot, making sketches and outlining paintings.
