The Annual Award of the Konrad Mägi Foundation to Priit Põldma

This year’s Annual Award of the Konrad Mägi Foundation has been granted to the playwright and stage director Priit Põldma.

The Foundation highlighted Põldma’s play Fever on Konrad Mägi and Nikolai Triik, which premiered in September this year in the Vanemuine Theatre (staged by Tiit Palu). Põldma started working on the play a few years ago upon the initiative of the Foundation: he made several research trips and finally came up with a generalising picture of the inner world of the artist. 

The chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Konrad Mägi Foundation Enn Kunila said that it was evident at the premiere how thoroughly, attentively and humanely Põldma had approached the cultural world of the time and the aspirations of the first Estonian artists. “Põldma’s work will not only make Konrad Mägi more widely known, but it will also bring him closer to us,” added Kunila. He also pointed out how the performances by the actors Rasmus Kaljujärv and Andres Mähar enabled the characters to become relevant and present in our current time.  

The size of the Annual Award is € 5,000. It is granted to those who in the previous year have contributed to the popularisation of Konrad Mägi’s life and oeuvre in Estonia or abroad. An applicant can set up his or her own candidature. The award has previously been granted to Eero Epner, Tõnis Saadoja, Marianne Kõrver, Pilvi Kalhama and Nils Ohlsen.

Priit Põldma (1994) is an Estonian dramatist, playwright and stage director. His oeuvre deals with various universally human and existential issues. Põldma’s play Fever is performed in the Vanemuine Theatre to great public appeal.
