A New Painting by Konrad Mägi Has Been Discovered

Recently, the Konrad Mägi Foundation was informed of a previously unknown painting by Konrad Mägi. The work was completed between 1908 and 1910 in Norway. It most likely depicts Skotterud County east of Oslo, where Mägi spent at least one winter. Mägi rarely painted winter landscapes and is known to have only painted them in Norway, so this work adds a new dimension to Mägi’s body of work.
The work belonged to the Estonian military attaché in Moscow. After the Soviet invasion, the painting returned to Estonia and was in the collection of the attaché’s daughter.
Over the years, the Konrad Mägi Foundation has found over 40 paintings whose location was unknown or whose existence was previously unknown.
