Konrad Mägi in Close-up
19.10.2023–14.04.2024

The exhibition examines the works of Konrad Mägi (1878‒1925), a classic Estonian artist, based on the results of technical studies. By using modern methods, it is possible to detect what is invisible to the naked eye, i.e. underdrawings, overpainting, changes made in the composition and colour corrections. Thus, we better understand the structure, painting technique and materials of each individual work and become familiar with the artist’s style.

Konrad Mägi in Close-up is based on Darja Jefimova’s master’s thesis, which includes documentation on approximately thirty Konrad Mägi paintings and which she defended at the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2023.

The exhibition is organised in cooperation with Kumu Art Museum and the Konrad Mägi Foundation.
