The exhibition Konrad Mägi. Unseen Paintings will be open at the Estonian National Museum from 13 October 2023 to 7 January 2024
Nearly forty paintings will be displayed of Konrad Mägi’s (1878–1925) works, which have never before been exhibited to the public or which have very rarely been put on display.
In recent years, the Konrad Mägi Foundation has discovered and ascertained the locations of several dozen hitherto unknown works by Konrad Mägi, which reveal entirely new aspects of the artist’s oeuvre. These works are from private collections in Estonia, Finland, and Canada. The works include both the largest and the smallest known paintings by Mägi, a rare work painted on a rock, entirely new motifs or new versions of old treatments of motifs, a work that has been returned from Australia, and also the only known painting from Mägi’s Danish period. The exhibition also introduces stories of the disappearance and discovery of paintings by Mägi by way of texts and photographs. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue.
The exhibition is being held in cooperation with the Konrad Mägi Foundation and the Estonian National Museum.
The exhibition’s curator is Eero Epner, its designer is Mari Kurismaa, and its graphic designer is Mari Kaljuste.
