Kuressaare, the island of Saaremaa, Estonia. 1920

In the early summer of 1920, Mägi arrived in Saaremaa for the third time. This time he did not visit Vilsandi or Kihelkonna, but stayed at 43 Pikk Street in Kuressaare. He was there to improve his health in June and July, and he also instructed 120 primary school teachers who had gathered there for a training course. At the beginning of June, he wrote to Aleksander Tassa: “Come here and bring Vabbe with you. The air and mud work wonders for one’s nerves.”

Unlike on his previous trips to Saaremaa Mägi did not make many paintings, and the ones he painted do not constitute a separate period in his creative legacy.
